History/Overview
Introduced last year, the Ioniq is Hyundai's first dedicated electrified car. The Ioniq Electric you're reading about here was part of the car's 2017 rollout, along with a traditional hybrid model.
It's easy to see the Toyota Prius's influence in the Ioniq's fastback styling. While that hybrid poster child might have provided inspiration, the Ioniq is 100 per cent a Hyundai creation that shares some of its underpinnings with the Kia Niro wagon.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2018, the Ioniq Electric adds exterior chrome glass trim, and Electric Limited gains LED headlights and lane keep assist.
Available Trims
Hyundai offers the Ioniq Electric in SE and Limited trims. SE can be optioned with a cold climate package (CCP).
Standard Features
Ioniq Electric SE comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, six-way manual seats, eight-speaker stereo with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8.0-inch infotainment display with navigation, leather-trimmed shifter and steering wheel, copper-coloured interior trim, passive keyless entry, electric parking brake, single-zone automatic climate control, 7.0-inch TFT gauge cluster display and blind spot detection with rear cross traffic alert.
The SE CCP adds heated rear seats, a battery temperature management system and HVAC heat pump.
Limited trim brings LED headlights, power-folding side mirrors, chrome door handles, power driver's seat, leather upholstery, artificial leather dash and door trim, auto-dimming rearview mirror, adaptive cruise control, LED interior lighting, lane keeping assist and forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic braking.
Fuel Economy
Hyundai's energy consumption estimates for the Ioniq Electric are 1.6/1.9 Le/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
Electric cars are becoming a big deal, so you have a few others to choose from, such as the Ford Focus Electric, Volkswagen e-Golf, Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Bolt.
